A Legend of Zelda anniversary collection has been turned down by Nintendo.

Series designer Shigeru Miyamoto and president Satoru Iwata decided not to release a compilation of games because they did something similar for Mario's anniversary last year, according to Nintendo World Report.

A free version of Legend of Zelda: Four Swords for DSiWare and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Wii will instead commerate the series anniversary.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker on GameCube featured a Legend of Zelda compilation, including N64 titles Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and two NES instalments.

Last year's Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition featured the Super Mario All-Stars versions of all three NES outings, as well as Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.

The original The Legend of Zelda was released in Japan for the NES in 1986.
