The sci-fi shooter, which was originally released in 1994, will run at 30FPS and feature new touch-screen controls.
The game is being ported to the device by indie programmer Daniel Blezek, who described Marathon's story and gameplay as "outstanding".
In an interview with Bungie.net, Blezek said: "Durandal's descent into rampancy, his quirky humour and the hidden messages make excellent additions to the old school style.
"For many, Marathon will invoke a wave of nostalgia; for others, this will be the first experience with the seminal Mac FPS.
"I hope all players appreciate Bungie's commitment to their fans. It's not every company who would support bringing a 16 year old game back to life!"
Marathon is the first part of a video game trilogy released by Bungie during the '90s.
The third and final game, Marathon: Infinity, was released in 1996, five years before Bungie released Halo: Combat Evolved.
A HD remake of Marathon 2, entitled Marathon: Durandal, is available on Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80 or $10).
