Theatrhythm will feature characters and music from every Final Fantasy title from I through XIII. When the game was first announced, characters Cloud and Lightning, from Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XIII respectively, were shown in the game's distinct chibi art style.
Players will be able to select one of the numbered titles in the Final Fantasy series and play through stages that fall into three categories, "field," "battle" and "event." It is currently unclear exactly what these stages will entail.
An early screenshot shows a battle with four party members, each given a bar for notes to appear on while another screen shows a single character with a line to trace with the stylus in time with the music.
Theatrhythm will include character growth and collection aspects that have become hallmarks of the Final Fantasy series. Characters gain levels throughout the game, and new music and movie scenes can be collected throughout the adventure.
The music in Theatrhythm will be pulled from the Final Fantasy series' past, with confirmed tracks 'Clash on the Big Bridge' from Final Fantasy V, 'One Winged Angel' from Final Fantasy VII, 'At Zanarkand' from Final Fantasy X, 'The Sunleth Waterscape' from Final Fantasy XIII and the main Final Fantasy theme that has carried throughout the series.
LittleBigPlanet 2 will see Final Fantasy VII costumes, including Cloud and Sephiroth, added to the game from next week.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is in development for the Nintendo 3DS and does not yet have a release date.
