BBC Worldwide will publish independent games as part of a new initiative, it has been revealed.

Executive producer Simon Harris said that the firm will work with British developers in a bid to promote their work in other regions.

"We really want to start motivating British development talent," Harris told attendees at the Develop conference in Brighton.

"In a few weeks' time you will see our first initiative around UK indies. We've come up with a plan and we are working with a couple of indies already, looking to get them into business outside of the UK."

Harris added that BBC Worldwide is to release games on a number of platforms in the near future.

"We have Facebook titles under development, we're working on consoles, Flash and XBLA and PSN," he said. "Over the next year you will hopefully start seeing a lot of innovation from us."

BBC Worldwide has released a number of TV shows as iOS applications, including Doctor Who and Top Gear.

A new Doctor Who: The Adventure Games series, Doctor Who MMO and a third unannounced project are also in the works.
