'DOTA 2' for Gamescom reveal, out 2011

Valve has announced that the first public showing of DOTA 2 will occur at Gamescom in Germany.

While DOTA 2 was previously rumoured for a Gamescom unveiling, it has now been reported that Valve will reveal the title through a unique tournament.

The International will be a double elimination tournament featuring the 16 best DOTA teams in the world competing in DOTA 2 for the first time. The winning team will receive a prize of $1 million. The International will be broadcast in English, German, Russian and Chinese.

"The International is the first public DOTA 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing DOTA around the world their first look at the new game," said Valve president Gabe Newell. "I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary."

DOTA 2 is a sequel to the popular Warcraft 3 mod Defence of the Ancients. The game is developed by Valve, while the original Defence of the Ancients developers have created their own free-to-play game League of Legends.

DOTA 2 will release later this year for both PC and Mac.

Gamescom 2011, which is open to the public, will be held in Cologne, Germany from August 17 to August 21, with the UK selected as its official partner.
