'inFamous' studio Sucker Punch purchased by Sony

Sucker Punch has been purchased by Sony, it has been announced.

The inFamous and Sly Cooper developer will be the 16th studio to join Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios group.

The move will see Sucker Punch's lineup exclusive to Sony platforms, and its open-world technology and expertise shared between other first-party studios.

Day-to-day operations at the Bellevue, Washington studio will continue to be run by its current management team.

"Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years," said SCE World Wide Studios' Shihei Yoshida.

"The addition of Sucker Punch to SCE WWS reiterates our dedication to developing world class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform."

Sucker Punch managing director Brian Fleming added: "We've enjoyed an incredible relationship with Sony that has allowed us to combine our creative design capabilities with their guidance to make some of the best franchises to hit the PlayStation platforms.

"As a part of the Sony Computer Entertainment group we look forward to introducing more innovative content and providing consumers with exciting, new interactive experiences."

LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule was acquired by Sony early last year.
