The studio told MCV that the game's initial profits helped it fund the acquisition of the Midway assets.
"With the launch of Mortal Kombat, we have already paid for the acquisition of the Midway assets, and we are just beginning to leverage this acquisition with much more to come," said Warner Interactive president Martin Tremblay.
Mortal Kombat has fared well by comparison to its Capcom rivals Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs Capcom 3, which have sold 1.6 million units and 2 million units respectively since June.
Earlier this month, the fighter received a DLC update enabling users to play as Nightmare on Elm Street murderer Freddy Krueger.
Mortal Kombat was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in April.
