The Portal 2 DLC was originally announced in April for a release during the summer.
Speaking with Kotaku, Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi added that mid-September is "still technically summer".
The Portal 2 DLC is said to include new puzzle-filled test chambers, a challenge mode for both single and multiplayer, and leaderboards for the new modes.
The DLC will still be free to all users, as was originally announced.
