The game stars infamous and honourable thief Raphael as he steals famous works of art throughout Paris, only to return them days later. Raphael searches the Parisian streets for a treasure known as the Wristlet of Tiamat to solve the mystery behind his father's disappearance.
The title will be a rhythm game, using stylus taps, swipes and gyroscope movements to manoeuvre through Paris, pulling off various heists.
"Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure blends rhythm, puzzles and a compelling story set in one of the world's most exciting cities in a way that has never been seen before," said Sega VP of Marketing Gary Knight.
"This unique blend makes creative use of the Nintendo 3DS's technology, offering an engaging, challenging and, most importantly, fun experience throughout."
Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure is slated to release early 2012 on Nintendo 3DS.
