Battlefield 3 product manager Tommy Rydling has revealed new details for the game's co-operative mode.

Rydling began by detailing how co-operative multiplayer will be balanced to encourage teamwork between players. Each co-operative mission will be asymmetrical, providing each player with different complementary objectives.

"This means that one mission can have you piloting a helicopter while your friend is the gunner, for example," Rydling wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "Other situations have one player disarming a bomb and the other one defending him."

Battlefield 3's co-operative multiplayer mode will also offer rewards players can carry over to the competitive multiplayer modes.

"Clearing the co-op missions not only gives you scores and bragging rights - it also has benefits for your multiplayer career," said Rydling.

"There are a number of weapons that you can unlock in co-op and take with you to the regular multiplayer modes. These unlocks are based on your combined scores accumulated throughout the co-op campaign."

Developer DICE previously revealed that there will be ten co-operative missions in Battlefield 3. However, the co-operative mode will not support split-screen play on a single system.

Battlefield 3 will launch on October 25 in North America and October 28 in Europe.
