The online RPG will be released on the Wii and Wii U, and features cross-compatibility between platforms.
Players will be encouraged to "form parties and co-exist with other players in an online world", reports CVG.
The Wii U version will contain improved graphics and may be supported with online usage fees, according to official documents.
Dragon Quest X will be developed internally at Square Enix. The firm is also looking at plans to introduce 3DS Spot Pass character exchanges.
Dragon Quest X was first announced in 2008. It will be the first entry in the series to appear on a Nintendo home console since 1995's Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie for the SNES.
A Wii U version of the game was hinted at earlier this year, after an investor said that the Wii was past its prime.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies was released on Nintendo DS last summer in Europe.
