With 3D video recording, users will be able to record video footage using the Nintendo 3DS outer camera and view the videos in glasses-free 3D.
"People will be able to record and view moments from birthday parties, soccer games and holiday events, or create their own original 3D productions and show them to others in 3D, all without the need for special glasses," read a statement issued by Nintendo.
The November system update will also "provide new experiences for people who have conquered all the StreetPass challenges in StreetPass Mii Plaza".
During Nintendo's pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference president Satoru Iwata hinted that new StreetPass minigames will be added, but no details were given.
Nintendo also announced a release date and price for the 3DS Slide Pad in Japan and revealed the new Misty Pink 3DS colour.
