The game will feature arcade-style gameplay, bringing the series back to its arcade roots. It is being developed by EA Tiburon, the studio that handles the Madden and NCAA Football franchises.
"NFL Blitz was one of the great arcade classics of the '90s, and now we're bringing back everything fans loved at a great price, in high-definition and as a digital download," said Cam Weber of EA Sports.
"The new NFL Blitz will preserve the competitive nature of the original game, while delivering to fans the ultimate rivalry experiences online."
Electronic Arts recently released NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, another classic arcade sports game.
NFL Blitz will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in January 2012 for 1200 MS Points or $14.99 (£9.99) respectively.
