The expansion will take place on the new continent of Pandaria, featuring green hills and distinct Chinese-styled architecture. The new playable race, Pandaren, will be introduced along with the new Monk player class.
The Pandaren race will be playable by both the Alliance and Horde factions.
Other changes with the expansion include a new talent system, the level cap raised to 90, a dungeon challenge mode, a pet battle system, and player versus environment (PVE) scenarios.
The Pandaren, a race of panda people, first emerged in Warcraft lore as an April Fools' joke by a Blizzard artist, but were soon featured in expansion Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne following requests from fans.
Today at Blizzcon 2011, Blizzard also announced an annual pass for World of Warcraft, which will give players beta access to the expansion as well as a full free copy of Diablo III.
No release date has been announced for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria.
