Total Recall will get its own game, Sony Pictures has announced.

Based on the movie remake releasing next year, it will be a browser-based massively-multiplayer title, featuring free-to-play and social elements.

It is currently being developed by Chinese studio ZQGame, who has previously released Shadowland Online.

"Total Recall is an international phenomenon; we know this well-known property will make a great 3D browser based game," said Sony Pictures vice president Mark Caplan.

"With SEE Games and ZQGame's expertise, Total Recall will offer fans of the franchise and gamers alike an engaging and authentic experience - one that will deliver everything that the fans expect and will dovetail perfectly with the upcoming film."

The movie remake, which features Colin Farrell, is said to be much "darker" in tone and less camp than the original.

The Total Recall MMO is expected to release around the movie's August 3, 2012 release date.
