Xbox Live gets new member every two seconds, says Microsoft

Robin Burrowes, head of marketing for the platform, said at the 2011 London Games Conference that it has gained 15 million users over the last year, Develop reports.
The executive revealed that 50,000 users joined Xbox Live when it launched back in 2002, a figure which has risen to 35 million over the years. The recent surge in subscriptions was partly attributed to the popularity of Kinect.
"Users are resonating with the fact that the games console goes beyond its usual remit," Burrowes said, citing figures from the Xbox 360's European user base to support the statement.
As many as 75 percent of Xbox 360 owners in the territory watch DVDs and 72 percent download content. A further 42 percent use their consoles to access social networks and chat services.
Xbox Live Gold membership is available for an annual cost of £39.99.
