The original Kid Icarus is set to join Nintendo's series of 3D classics on Nintendo 3DS.

Kid Icarus originally released on the NES in 1987, and will be enhanced with 3D effects for its release on Nintendo 3DS. Previous 3D classics on 3DS include Excitebike, Urban Champion, and Kirby's Adventure.

In Europe, the game will be available for free as part of a promotion through Club Nintendo. Club Nintendo members who register two games between November 1 and January 31 will receive a code to download the game after January 5, 2012.

Eligible games for the promotion are: Resident Evil: Revelations, Mario Kart 7, Super Pokémon Rumble, Super Mario 3D Land, Tetris, Star Fox 64 3D, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Dead or Alive Dimensions, Steel Diver, Nintendogs + Cats, Pilotwings Resort and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition.

Nintendo's announcement indicates that 3D Classics: Kid Icarus will be available exclusively through the Club Nintendo promotion in Europe. No announcement has been made for North America at this time.

Nintendo is also developing Kid Icarus: Uprising for Nintendo 3DS, which was delayed to a 2012 release.
