Writing on Twitter, Xbox director of programming Major Nelson confirmed the delay ahead of the planned 3pm UK launch.
"FYI: The timing for Xbox 360 dashboard update has been slightly delayed. I'll have a status update later today," he tweeted.
"Thanks again for your patience. I won't have additional details until later today. The moment I have new information, I'll share it w/ you," he added minutes later.
The new Xbox 360 dashboard update will adopt the Metro panel seen on Windows Phone and Windows 8 operating systems.
Channels can be navigated using either a controller, Kinect or voice control, which will be integrated into its brand new Bing search function.
A series of entertainment apps are due to be released over the coming months, including YouTube, LOVEFiLM and BBC programming.
