Activision is calling the title an epilogue story, with the game taking place after the events of the film reboot.
One prominent feature will be the return of a free-roaming city for Spider-Man to swing through. Spider-Man will also receive improvements to navigation and combat as he defends Manhattan from "a variety of criminals". No specific villains from Spider-Man's rogues' gallery have been confirmed for the game.
The game is under development by Beenox, the same team behind last year's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and this year's Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man game will debut on December 10 during the VGAs on Spike TV.
Other titles confirmed for the awards show include a new property from Epic Games, BioWare's next project, Metal Gear Solid: Rising and a downloadable Alan Wake release.
The Amazing Spider-Man game will launch in Summer 2012 alongside next year's film, which releases on July 3, 2012.
