Shigeru Miyamoto has not retired from his current role within Nintendo, the firm has stated.
In an interview with Wired, the famed Mario and Legend of Zelda creator said he was to step back from his role as supervisor to work on smaller projects.
"What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself, probably working on a smaller project with even younger developers," he revealed.

"Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small.
"In other words, I'm not intending to start from things that require a five-year development time."
The news saw Nintendo's shares to fall by 2%, resulting in a spokesperson calling the retirement claims "absolutely not true".
"There seems to have been a misunderstanding. He has said all along that he wants to train the younger generation," the firm told Reuters.
They added: "He has no intention of stepping down. Please do not be concerned."
Shigeru Miyamoto started at Nintendo in 1980, and is responsible for creating some of its biggest franchises, including Mario, Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Pikmin and F-Zero.
Miyamoto recently oversaw development on Super Mario 3D Land and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
