Supergiant Games' innovative role-playing game launched as a Google Chrome app earlier today and is due to be followed by Square Enix title Mini Ninjas.
Utilising a new technology called Native Client, games can be quickly and easily ported to the browser, in a move that could cut down video game piracy.
According to Venture Beat, developers can use a number of familiar tools to help port games to Google Chrome.
The Unity 3D game engine, for example, will now include a check box that a developer can click in order to make a Unity-based game run on the Chrome browser.
Calling Google's Native Client technology an "excellent solution for browser gaming", Square Enix chief Yoichi Wada said that native client will be "welcomed worldwide as a truly innovative technology for the information technology industry and game industry as well".
