Nintendo's next home console will feature a "full blown" online shop that will offer a variety of non-gaming apps, according to The Daily.
Apps will reportedly run either through a television or directly on the device's tablet controller, and will go beyond the DSi store's current range of calculators and notepads.
While one specific example for a potential app is MLB.TV, it was also speculated that the Wii U will allow access to email and social networks, as well as browsing the web.
It is unknown whether the store will adopt a straight payment for downloads or continue to use the Nintendo Points system.
The Wii U, which is scheduled to release sometime in 2012, will co-exist with the Wii for some time.
