The game is a spiritual successor to Microsoft's popular but long-absent Flight Simulator series, featuring realistic flight controls and plane models.
It will be set against the backdrop of a realistic depiction of Hawaii's largest island for players to fly over and explore.
It will be a free download, giving players access to an initial number of free planes to use.
By connecting the game with a Games for Windows Live account, players will gain additional free content including the Boeing Stearman plane, supplementary missions, and access to Achievements and an online pilot profile.
New content, including planes, challenges and regions can then be purchased in the game.
Microsoft will run a closed beta for the game, which users can sign up for here.
Microsoft Flight is scheduled to release on PC this spring.
