The Vita port will include all content from the game's console release last year, including PlayStation exclusive character Kratos from God of War and add-on characters Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and Freddy Krueger.
New features and content will be added exclusively for the PlayStation Vita release, though further details have not been announced.
"The NetherRealm team is committed to making sure that we follow up the success of 2011's Mortal Kombat with an equally compelling experience on the PlayStation Vita," said creative director Ed Boon.
"The original game content and new features we developed for the PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experience available on the new mobile platform."
Warner Bros Interactive previously announced Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which will include all DLC, a music album and a download code for the 1995 Mortal Kombat film.
Mortal Kombat on PlayStation Vita will be available in spring 2012.
