Sony's PlayStation Vita is being outsold by the PlayStation Portable in the Japanese market,
PS Vita sold 18,361 units in the Asian territory for the week ending January 15, while its predecessor managed 22,538, according to figures from Media Create (via Andriasang).
The handheld console debuted in Japan in mid-December to strong initial sales of 325,000 in its first week. However, it managed just 72,479 in its second week.

Nintendo's 3DS launched to high sales last year, but later slumped, forcing the platform holder to slash its price. The gaming giant has since revealed that it went on to surpass the original DS in terms of first-year sales.
PS Vita's Japanese launch lineup included Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, BlazBlue Continuum Shift II, Lord of Apocalypse, Michael Jackson: The Experience, Power Smash 4, Uncharted, Hot Shots Golf 6, Disgaea 3: Return and Katamari Damacy Nobita.
Sony will launch the system in Europe and North America on February 22, 2012.
