Mass Effect 3 will launch alongside some form of portable spinoff.
The mobile tie-in will play a part in the game's Galaxy At War multiplayer component, reports Kotaku.
"There will be 'handheld/mobile' products tied to Mass Effect 3, as noted in our past few earnings announcements. They are part of the Galaxy At War system. We will have more details to share soon," explained an Electronic Arts representative.
The tie-in is unlikely to be a full retail release, rather an app or social network-based meta-game enabling players to improve Galaxy Readiness levels.

Galaxy At War will entail a series of co-operative missions for up to four players. Completing missions in multiplayer will impact the single-player game, improving the Galactic Readiness level.
The Galactic Readiness level will represent Commander Shepard's ability to use every asset available to fight the Reapers, including people, weapons, resources, armies and fleets.
Mass Effect 3 will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC from March 6 in North America and March 9 in Europe.
