Madden NFL 12 has shifted more than 5 million units since August, while Star Wars: The Old Republic already has 1.7 million active subscribers.

Meanwhile, EA's digital distribution service Origin registered more than 9.3 million customers and has generated more than $100 million (£63m) in non-GAAP revenue since its launch.

EA's chief financial officer Eric Brown also revealed that "third quarter non-GAAP digital revenue grew 79% year-over year" and that the company achieved its "goal of generating over $1 billion in non-GAAP digital revenue on a trailing-12-month basis".

However, Electronic Arts also expressed its concern about the financial state of a major European retail partner, thought to be GAME.

FIFA 12 was released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii last September. It became the third biggest-selling gaming release ever in the UK.
