Syndicate is regarded as a new franchise by EA.

Executive producer Jeff Gamon has said that for the publisher, the reboot of the 1993 strategy title is "essentially a new game".

"The spirit of the new Syndicate is to take the good things from the original - the world, the agents and the technology - and then putting them all together in a form that is more appropriate for the modern audience," he told Digital Spy.

"For all intents and purposes, this is the launch of a brand new franchise. It's certainly not a remake. It's more of a re-imagination.

"From a mechanical point of view it is different, but it still retains the spirit and basis of the original, including the digital world and dark tone, but it is essentially a new game."

Gamon added: "And if it proves successful, then the scope is limitless."

Announced in September, the first-person shooter reboot will be developed by Starbreeze Studios.

It will be released on February 21 in North America and February 24 in Europe on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC
