Double Fine turns to Kickstarter for new adventure title

By
Double Fine has announced a new adventure game and is currently seeking funding for it through Kickstarter.

The title, currently called Double Fine Adventure, will see a collaboration between Double Fine's Tim Schafer and developer Ron Gilbert on a new retro-styled point-and-click adventure game.

The two worked together on classic games such as Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle and the Monkey Island series.

Double Fine has achieved its goal of $400,000 (£252,942) in less than 12 hours thanks to contributions from over 9,000 backers.

Funds will continue to be accepted, with Schafer announcing that the extra money will be used to translate the game into other languages and consider other platforms.

"All the money goes into making the game and documentary better," he said.

People who fund $15 (£9) will receive a copy of the game through Steam upon release, as well as access to the beta and a video documentary produced by 2 Player Productions.

Other funding options include your name in the credits, an exclusive poster, and a portrait of you by Double Fine's art team.

Earlier this week, Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson offered to help Double Fine fund Psychonauts 2. The offer followed comments made by Schafer to Digital Spy that he would "love" to make the game but lacked the funds to create it.
