The indie studio revealed that the new game, which was outed through Twitter, will not be a direct remake of the 2010 platformer for Xbox 360, PC and Mac.
"We won't make a game with s****y touch controls," the firm promised, adding that the project "Won't be a simple game like Doodle Jump, it will be a larger more traditional game.
"If you liked Super Meat Boy I'm sure you will enjoy this (if it's good enough to continue on). We just had a few cool ideas and wanted a challenge."
Team Meat has not announced specific platform for the venture, though it is expected to launch on mobile phones. A 3DS iteration was previously rumoured.
The studio also confirmed in a recent Tweet that the original game will never see a PlayStation 3 release.
Super Meat Boy surpassed the sales milestone of 1 million copies last month.
