Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2's first pictures have been released.
The screenshots show Sonic and Tails in a variety of new environments inspired by former Sonic games.
Inspirations include Aquatic Ruin Zone and Oil Ocean Zone from Sonic 2, as well as Ice Cap Zone and Carnival Night Zone from Sonic 3.

Elsewhere, Sonic 2's special stages are set to make a comeback.
The screenshots were temporarily posted on the game's Xbox Live Marketplace listing before being taken offline.
Announced in December, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will feature both Tails and Metal Sonic.
It will be available on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, Windows Phone 7, iOS and Android devices later this year.
A Wii version will not be in development, according to Sega.
