The trademark was filed on Tuesday (February 14) by Capcom Japan, though no specific announcement has yet been made by the company.
Producer Yoshinori Ono has hinted at his desire to return to the supernatural fighting game series many times over the years.
Most recently at last year's New York Comic-Con, Ono showed a slide during his Street Fighter X Tekken panel reading simply "Darkstalkers are not dead."
The first game in the series - Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors - debuted in 1994. The latest release in the franchise was Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower, which came out in 2004.
A Japanese-only compilation titled Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection was released the following year.
Street Fighter X Tekken is Capcom's current fighting game focus. The tag-team fighter features characters from both Capcom and Namco's best-selling series.
It will be coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March followed by PC in May. A PlayStation Vita version is also in development, but has not received a release date.
