Nintendo has hinted at a new Legend of Zelda game.

Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma sent a letter today (February 22) to Nintendo 3DS users through the Swapnote app - known as Letterbox in Europe - teasing an upcoming game in the series.

"Hello, this is Aonuma, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda producer," the letter said. "Did you enjoy The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D? Thanks to everyone, the Legend of Zelda series had a very happy 25th anniversary. I hope you're looking forward to new Legend of Zelda games."

The note also references the series' 25th anniversary, which was celebrated last year. That celebration included the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D on 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition as a free download for Nintendo DSi and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Wii.

A new Legend of Zelda game was confirmed to be in development last year.

Nintendo has also suggested that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask could be possible for 3DS in the future.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was recently voted to have the best video game ending by Digital Spy readers.
