'Gotham by Gaslight' prototype footage surfaces - watch video
The project, based on the DC Comics one-shot of the same name, was in production at F.3.A.R. developer Day 1 Studios between 2009 and 2010 before being dropped.
Gotham by Gaslight was written by Brian Augustyn and illustrated by Mike Mignola. The story takes place in 1889, pitting a steampunk Batman against Jack the Ripper.
Day 1 Studios' adaptation was in the works for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, featuring gameplay similar to Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. The project was abandoned after the studio failed to strike up a deal with publisher THQ.
The footage, which shows Batman clad in two different outfits and exploring 3D environments, first appeared on Siliconera courtesy of a source at the development studio.
Gotham by Gaslight first appeared in print in 1989. It went on to spawn a sequel titled Master of the Future several years later.
