The highly-anticipated sequel will arrive first in North America on October 16, then throughout Europe from October 19.
BioShock Infinite sees players control ex-Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, who is tasked with rescuing Elizabeth from the airborne city Columbia.
Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine has said that the game's vertical city is designed to play on gamers' fear of heights.
The game will feature 1999 mode, a more difficult option where players take more damage and choices in weapon specialisation have a greater impact.
BioShock Infinite will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
