Assassin's Creed 3's first screenshots have been leaked.

The five images appeared on Reddit posted by user Dylanjosh, who does not cite how the leaked screenshots were obtained. Ubisoft has not confirmed their authenticity, but the quality of the shots appears to be genuine.

The screenshots show the sequel's protagonist using new techniques for the series, such as climbing trees and hunting wildlife.

He is also shown in colonial villages and forest settings during various seasons, suggesting the game's story will take place over the course of a year or years, much like Assassin's Creed II.

Ubisoft has stated that full details of the anticipated sequel will be released on March 5.

Assassin's Creed 3's box art was revealed yesterday, backing up previous reports that the game will take place during the American Revolution and feature a Native American protagonist.

Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot previously hinted that the next Assassin's Creed title will be the "biggest to date".

An unofficial Assassin's Creed film recently appeared in India.

Assassin's Creed 3 will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in October.
