"Since the launch of our entertainment apps, we've seen a significant increase in the amount of time that's been spent on the Xbox Live platform," said product manager Pawan Bhardwaj at a press event attended by Digital Spy.

"It's not happening at the expense of gaming, so gaming is still happening at the same rate as it was before, but we're seeing more people are spending more time consuming video content and TV content on the Xbox Live platform."

It was revealed that 42% of Xbox Live Gold members worldwide are watching an average of one hour per day, or 30 hours on a monthly basis.

Also revealed were the most popular apps on Xbox Live, with 4oD being "incredibly successful", Zune remaining "very popular", while Netflix and LoveFilm were also favourites.

iPlayer is available on Xbox 360 from today for all users, while support for Windows Phone is in the works.
