A collaboration between Media Molecule and Modnation Racers developer United Front Games, the title will feature the series' trademark customisation tools, as well as multiplayer racing, a battle mode, mini-games and objective-based driving missions.
LittleBigPlanet Karting also marks the first time in the history of the franchise that players can create and share within a 3D environment.
In addition to the aforementioned game modes, players will be able to "modify the rules of the game to create completely new modes and challenges".
"Our goal with LBP Karting has been fairly simple - provide a fast-paced experience that captures the best of classic Karting gameplay, married with the unbridled creativity of LBP," said United Front Games producer James Grieve.
"This new adventure will be accessible to players of all ages and have all of the variety necessary to satisfy both the hardcore and more casual players," he added.
The Sackboy-themed Karting game was outed at a Destination PlayStation Event earlier this year.
Sony confirmed that it was in development later that week, but failed to offer any further details. It is thought to be Move-enabled and support 3D visuals, however.
Launching later this year, the game has so far only been confirmed for the PS3.
