By
GAME and GameStation stores across the country have begun closing their doors, following today's announcement that GAME Group has entered administration.

GAME stores in Birmingham Palisades, Edinburgh Princes Street, Croydon, Milton Keynes, Liverpool and Newcastle have closed, while GameStation stores in Birmingham New Street, Enfield, Coventry, Leicester and Sunderland have ceased trading, according to MCV.

It has also been revealed that GAME Group has suspended trading in all of its Irish stores.

Almost half of all GAME and GameStation stores are expected to close over the coming week, many of which have already ceased trading following this morning's announcement.

The GAME and GameStation websites are also down, as administrators review and process any outstanding orders.

GAME CEO Ian Shepherd earlier resigned from his role following the appointment of PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) as administrators.

GAME Group announced its intentions to file for administration following last week's delisting from the London Stock Exchange.

The high street retailer's shares plummeted by 90% in 2011, despite £1 billion in annual turnover.
