Unveiled yesterday, the Nintendo 3DS title is a side-scrolling platform game which makes heavy use of the stylus, reports Eurogamer.
Developed by Dreamrift, the team behind Nintendo DS pet sim Monster Tale, the game sees players use the stylus to paint and trace items into existence.
The more accurately players trace items, the more powerful they become. Players can also erase objects with the stylus.
The game features levels inspired from Disney films such as Sleeping Beauty and Tangled, while characters saved throughout the course of the game appear in Mickey's fortress.
A Castle of Illusion return was heavily rumoured after Disney trademarked the name in October.
Recently-announced console release Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2, meanwhile, will be once again developed by Junction Point and Deus Ex creator Warren Spector.
The game will feature co-operative play, with one player controlling Mickey while the other takes on the role of Disney's first mascot Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
Touted as the first video game musical, Epic Mickey 2 will see characters express themselves in song at multiple points in the adventure, using original music and lyrics.
Mickey will retain his ability to use paint and thinner on the environment, which will be complemented for puzzles by a remote control Oswald who can manipulate electricity.
Player choices will once again affect the events of Epic Mickey 2, and can even result in different songs during the musical portions depending on Mickey's actions.
It will be released by the end of 2012.
