The reboot for the classic arcade brawler will see brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee fighting through the streets to save Marian from a new villain, Skullmageddon.
As the Neon name implies, the game will be infused with '80s flair, from the neon lights and bright clothing to '80s inspired music. A grid-like mixtape system will be in place, allowing players to upgrade their character with power-ups.
The original Double Dragon beat 'em up game was released in 1987 as an arcade game and later ported to platforms ranging from the NES and ZX Spectrum to the iPhone.
Double Dragon: Neon is being published by Majesco.
It will be developed by WayForward Technologies, the studio which rebooted another classic series with Contra 4 and last year released BloodRayne: Betrayal.
Double Dragon: Neon is expected to release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network in July.
