The game was originally due to be released on June 29, but has now been moved to an unspecified time in August.
THQ issued a statement on the game's website to confirm the news: "It's just a short delay, but we promise the game you'll have in August will be well worth the wait!
"This is great news for the team at Vigil, because it allows additional time for polish and to ensure that all aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting."
The delay is said to have nothing to do with the recent spate of job cuts at Vigil Games and will not affect customers' pre-orders in any way.
The story of Darksiders 2 will run parallel to that of the first Darksiders game. Players will take on the role of the horseman Death as he travels through the Abyss to redeem his brother War and undo the apocalypse.
THQ previously announced a number of pre-order bonuses for Darksiders 2 available at various retailers.
A Wii U version is also in development for a later release.
