Studio head Gabe Newell told Seven Day Cooldown that nobody at the company has met with Apple CEO Tim Cook, but admitted that persistent rumours to the contrary caused confusion.
"We actually, we all sent mail to each other, going, 'Who's Tim Cook meeting with? Is he meeting with you? I'm not meeting with Tim Cook'," he said. "It's one of those rumours that was stated so factually that we were actually confused."
Newell went on to say that he wishes the reports were accurate because he has several ideas to pitch to Apple to help them improve their gaming support.
"No-one here was meeting with Tim Cook or with anybody at Apple that day. I wish we were! We have a long list of things we'd love to see Apple do to support games and gaming better," he added.
"But no, we didn't meet with Tim Cook. He seems like a smart guy, but I've never actually met him."
The falsified reports suggested that Valve and Apple were collaborating to bring games integration to the Cupertino firm's rumoured connected TV device.
