Sony's PlayStation Vita will receive a free Skype app tomorrow (April 25).
The application, available through PSN via the 'Media & Apps Social' category, will bring video and audio calls to the device.
Users can make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi network or through 3G, should their Vita model support the technology. A background model will enable Skype to run on the system while a gaming session is in progress, although some titles will require mandatory shutdown.
Microsoft completed an $8.5 billion (£5bn) takeover deal for Skype late last year. The telephone service was rolled out for Windows Phone devices in full earlier this week following a beta period.
Sony previously released the firmware update 1.67 for PS Vita to improve the stability of some of its games. The firm also announced a slate of new first-party apps for the system, including Paint Park and Wake-up Club.
Previous firmware releases added video recording and Google Maps to the console.
