A listing for the game on rental service Redbox revealed that the Xbox 360 version would be spread across two discs. The original listing stated that the service would only offer the first disc, which contained half of the single player content and none of the multiplayer.
Rockstar responded on Twitter, correcting the Redbox listing while confirming that the game will ship on multiple discs.
"That Redbox info is not accurate. Redbox only ever rent out one disc, for any multi-disc game. Max is on 2 discs for 360, so Redbox will be renting disc 1 which contains half of the single player story and the full multiplayer game," it wrote.
Redbox has since fixed its listing to include multiplayer on the game's first disc.
Games using multiple discs have become increasingly common on Xbox 360, most recently with Mass Effect 3 and The Witcher 2. Rockstar's own L.A. Noire released last year with three discs on Xbox 360.
Max Payne 3 arriving on two discs is less of a surprise after Rockstar announced the game's substantial PC system requirements.
Achievements and Trophies for the action title, which cover both the campaign and online multiplayer, were unveiled earlier this month.
Max Payne 3 will be released in North America on May 15 and Europe on May 18 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and then on June 1 for PC.
