Announced last week, the iOS shooter sequel sees players visit Earth for the first time in the series.
The campaign follows Kal Wardin, the hero of the resistance, as he travels to the abandoned city of San Francisco and a number of alien planets to fight an extra-terrestrial threat.
Iron sights and aim assist will be introduced for the first time, alongside new abilities including slowing down time for more accurate aiming.
The campaign is designed to be more cinematic, offering slow motion breaches into the new areas, first-person cutscenes and quick time event shooting sections.
Visual improvements are a priority for the sequel, offering dynamic lighting and a real physics engine, and it will support the new iPad's retina display at launch.
Multiplayer sees vehicles playable online for the first time, with multiple players able to use a mech, jetpack and war buggy at once.
More customisation options will be available, while in-App purchases allow players to fast-track unlockables using real currency.
NOVA 3 will be available on iPhone, iPad and Android in May, with an Xperia Play-enabled version shortly after release.
