Grand Theft Auto 5 could be responsible for BioShock Infinite's recent delay.

A report today from Wedbush Sercurities suggests that Rockstar Games plans to release Grand Theft Auto 5 in October, which would see publisher Take-Two releasing two major titles in competition with each other.

"We believe that October is the preferred release month for GTA 5's developer, Rockstar Games, as the studio has scheduled every prior GTA release during that month (with GTA 4 delayed to April 2008, due to bugs in the PS3 version)," Wedbush analysts said.

"We speculate that once Rockstar Games notified Take-Two that GTA 5 would be ready by October, Take-Two gave Irrational Games the option to spend more time fine-tuning BioShock Infinite."

This isn't the first time an October 2012 release was suggested for Grand Theft Auto 5. Last month a Rockstar employee's leaked CV listed October as the release date before being quickly removed.

Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine announced BioShock Infinite's delay citing the need to make extra tweaks and improvements.

Wedbush Securities said that it expects an official announcement of Grand Theft Auto 5's release date as early as May 22, when Take-Two announces its fourth quarter financial results, and no later than E3 2012 in June.

BioShock Infinite is now scheduled to release on February 26, 2013.
