The sci-fi social adventure game will cast players as members of the elite Outernaut force, tasked with capturing and training aliens throughout the galaxy.
Bearing a resemblance to Pokemon set in outer space, players will be able to team up with friends or fight against them in asynchronous turn-based battles.
The game promises a deep storyline and quest system written with the sense of wit and humour Insomniac is known for, as players discover the secrets behind a mysterious ancient civilization.
"We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience of gamers through Facebook," said Insomniac founder Ted Price.
"As we have demonstrated for nearly twenty years in the console games space, we're confident we can help evolve the definition of a game experience on Facebook. With Outernauts, we are delivering a deep story with real RPG strategy, coupled with Insomniac's signature sense of humour."
Insomniac Games is best known for its games in the Ratchet and Clank and Resistance franchises.
Outernauts is currently in closed beta testing, and will be available to all on Facebook later this summer.
