The beta will consist of 16 player matches across multiple modes and maps with access to six classes that can be customized with a range of weapons and upgrades.
It will run over the course of two weeks during the summer, though Ubisoft has not specified the exact date. Interestingly, Ubisoft is only conducting the beta on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with no PC beta plans announced.
Users will have several opportunities to gain access to the beta. The first is to sign up through the Far Cry 3 Facebook page, where Ubisoft will be giving out 500 beta codes.
Also in the US, GameStop rewards members who purchase Ghost Recon: Future Soldier through the retailer will receive access codes to the beta. More opportunities will become available closer to when the beta begins.
Two multiplayer modes, Firestorm and Domination, have been revealed so far for the game.
Firestorm sees two teams fighting to set their opponent's fuel supply on fire, as well as most of the surrounding map. Domination is a more standard multiplayer mode where teams fight to control specific points on the map.
Far Cry 3 will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC September 4 in North America and September 7 in Europe.
