'XCOM' delayed again to late 2013 by 2K

XCOM has been delayed by 2K Games.

The game is now scheduled to release in the company's fiscal year 2014. The fiscal year for publisher 2K Games and its parent company Take Two Interactive begins on April 1, 2013 and runs through to March 31, 2014.

XCOM had already suffered a delay earlier this year, pushing it back from its original date late this year to early 2013.

No reason has been given for the delay.

The first-person shooter was first announced in 2010 as a re-imagining for the series.

Set as a prequel to the classic strategy games, XCOM has players fighting to stop an alien invasion in the 1960s. Elements of the strategy series remain intact, as players issue squad commands through non-linear missions.

XCOM is under development by 2K Marin, which previously worked on Bioshock 2.

The game is to not be confused with upcoming strategy title XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Earlier today, 2K Games announced that XCOM: Enemy Unknown will release this October.

XCOM will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
